Tralleis Ancient City Set to Open its Doors in July 2025

The ancient city of Tralleis, considered one of the first settlements of Aydın and having hosted numerous civilizations throughout its history, is preparing to open its doors to visitors in July 2025, with ongoing excavation works and completed projects.

Located in the Efeler district of Aydın and believed to be one of the region’s earliest settlements, the ancient city of Tralleis continues to be unearthed through ongoing excavation efforts.

Excavations in the ancient city of Tralleis, which first began in 1996, are now in their 28th year, with work progressing rapidly and with great enthusiasm in the area.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Tourism Week, Aydın Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Demir provided information about the ongoing work in the ancient cities throughout the province, stating, “The environmental arrangement works of the Didyma Apollon Temple will be completed within June. Afterwards, it will be programmed for night museology and opened to visitors. The excavation works of the Ancient City of Tralleis will be completed in July, and it will be opened to visitors upon completion of the environmental arrangement and landscaping project. The strengthening project and opening to tourism efforts of the Aphrodisias Museum are being carried out by our Ministry. The environmental arrangement and reception unit of the Ancient City of Nysa have been completed and tendered.”

A First in Turkey

Stating that work is also continuing in the Nazilli district within the framework of Turkish-Islamic excavations included in the program by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Demir said; “At the same time, a first in Turkey, the Ahit Sivas excavation work in our Nazilli district, under the name of Turkish-Islamic excavations, has been included in the program by our Ministry.”

The opening of the ancient city of Tralleis, which has been home to many civilizations throughout its history, to visitors will make a significant contribution to the cultural and touristic potential of Aydın. Visitors will have the opportunity to trace the footsteps of the past among the unearthed remains of the ancient city.
