In recent days, Egypt announced the postponement of the highly anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, originally scheduled for July 3rd. The official inauguration has been deferred to the last quarter of this year amid ongoing regional tensions stemming from Iran-Israel conflicts.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated that the museum’s opening will take place at a more “appropriate time” once the global climate stabilizes. Although no direct names were mentioned, the delay was attributed to “current regional developments,” widely understood to reference the escalating Iran-Israel tensions.
“This decision reflects Egypt’s national responsibility and the desire to present this exceptional global event in an atmosphere befitting the grandeur and unique heritage of Egyptian civilization,” the statement read.
World’s Largest Civilization Museum Awaits Official Opening
The Grand Egyptian Museum, a $1 billion project located just 2 kilometers from the Giza Pyramids, is set to be the largest museum dedicated solely to the artifacts of a single civilization.
The project, which began construction in 2002, partially opened to limited visitors last year. The Ministry confirmed that the museum will continue to welcome visitors ahead of its official grand opening.

Tourism Growth Continues Despite Regional Challenges
Despite ongoing regional instability, Egypt is optimistic about its 2025 tourism outlook. The country has seen a 25% increase in international visitors during the first quarter, and officials predict the annual growth rate may exceed 10%.
Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, emphasized that the museum will serve not only as a cultural landmark but also expand offerings in adventure tourism, international conferences, and events.
“I hope to announce a forecast exceeding 10% very soon, but we are waiting for the second quarter data for a more accurate outlook,” he added.
